This week has mainly been about rain. Drizzly, half-hearted, limp-handshake rain. Blergh. The photo above isn’t from this last week, actually it’s off an iPhone from my last trip to Hong Kong. Even bad weather seems a bit more interesting and less grey the further East you go.
Highlights have definitely been breakfast and dinner meet ups with industry friends, including last night’s catch up with Ciara of Dita Florita and Sangeeta of Olivier Laudus. If you’re a bride to be and you haven’t checked out Dita Florita yet, make sure you go click on the link asap. They’re an online boutique who sell the most gorgeous and incredibly affordable vintage wedding dresses. I kind of have crazy love for the Diana and am tempted to just buy it myself and waft around Tescos in it. Olivier Laudus on the other hand, have a massive collection of beautiful bridal accessories, from fascinators to wedding umbrellas (this summer’s brides – take note!). They’re also currently running a competition on their blog. The winner receives a pair of gorgeous pearl drop earrings so what are you waiting for – send in your entry!

Probably the most useful infographic ever!

I stumbled across this list of 500 free movies online (I’m guessing they’re all online in a legal and kosher way?). There’s a big old mix of old films, documentaries, silent films and foreign films. Enough to keep you busy during a whole summer of rainy days.

I have a thing about New England. Never been. But weather-beaten, coastal, clapboard houses and sea-washed colours call to me in a big way. Yes, I read Anita Shreve and yes, I absolutely love the subtlety of this New Hampshire wedding.

How ace does this Reykjavik hostel look? I think you could make yourself very comfy, very easily.
I just noticed the link back to my photos featured on Style Me Pretty. Thanks for posting that. :)

So June 20th was officially the longest day of the year, and a few of my photography gals and I thought it would be interesting to document a day in photographs. I have to admit, I did really badly. Sometimes you get so carried away with the simple yet massively complex job of just living your life, you forget to document it. That’s probably my biggest failing as a photographer. I’m so involved with catching days for other people, I neglect to catch my own. Ooops.
Oh well. Here goes.
My day starts a little something like this. Earlier in summer, later in winter. Yes, it’s out of focus. It’s out of focus because I haven’t put my glasses on yet. And yes, I have the ugliest alarm clock in the world. But no matter, I can hardly see it without my glasses anyway.
I met up with Kate of Kate Ruth Romey to work on a little project we’ve been hatching together. We had lunch, waffles, tea and a good old chin wag. She also showed me her latest wedding invite she’s designed – clever or what?!
As I made my way home along the riverside, guess who I spotted?
What did you get up to?

I actually laughed at your weetabix and the way you put them sideways in the bowl with the sugar on the side (to fit presumably?!)!
Your view is just amazing!
Another gorgeous set of shots as ever :)

Hehehe thanks girls!! Yeah, I love my view too – makes up for living in a random part of London :) Tracey – hahaha, yeah I have small brekkie bowls, though I do have a larger one for days when I have 3 weetabix (but it doesn’t work for 2 because then you get too much milk. It’s a science ;))http://www.kathillblog.com/2012/07/personal-one-long-day/ […]July 3, 2012 – 11:00 am

Great photography, but wow, those little ep wedding invites are genius. I’m getting married next year so many thanks for introducing me to Kate Ruth Romey’s incredible work. I’ll be getting in touch! xxJuly 18, 2012 – 10:45 pm
Your photos are fabulous! I love the picture of the plant and the waffle. The details and the light is just perfect :)July 19, 2012 – 8:33 am
Thank you Marianne!! :) That means a lot, I LOOOOOOVE Nordic Bliss! xSome weeks you’ve got to search high and low for inspiration. Other times, you just find it right there on your doorstep. London’s all kinds of wonderful in that way.
// ONE FOR THE BOOKISH //
Live in East London? Love books? Check out the all new Goldsmith Row Book Market organised by a friend of Tom’s. We checked it out on Sunday and were pretty impressed by the variety of stalls including Foyles and other independents. If you’re NOT on a book-buying-ban like I am (seriously, I have knee-high stacks on my floor because my giant bookshelf is about to implode with the weight) then please go have a look one weekend, I’m sure they would love to see you there. It’s just next to Hackney City Farm and a hop and a skip from Columbia Road Flower market.
// ONE FOR THE CAFE SET //
My lazy weekend also involved a trip to Pitfield a cafe/shop/exhibition space rolled in to one and sitting pretty just north of Old Street. While their cafe is the kind of place you could easily chill out with a delicious pastry or two, your eyes are working hard taking in all the visuals being thrown at it from across the shop floor. The shop sells a lovely mix of new and old; and yes, I want everything.

I stumbled across this article about Embracing Alternative Timelines on your wedding day. OK, it’s not the most in-depth article in the world, and it’s geared to a US market, but it got me thinking. When almost every aspect of a wedding can be personalised these days, why are 99.99% of couples sticking with a traditional timeline? I don’t know, maybe it’s what works best, or maybe it’s just what people think is expected of them. Either way, I like the idea of shaking it up a little bit. And you know, I’d still love to photograph a first look (sadly none of my brides and grooms have taken me up on it yet!).
// ONE FOR A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE //
One of the most amazing things about photography for me, is how it lets you nosey in on a life that you couldn’t ever even imagine. Have a look at this series called Horn Please by Dan Eckstein.
//ONE FOR THE EASILY AMUSED //
I am loving Mark O’Brien’s work. He crafts cardboard into…well…almost anything you could possible imagine. Check out the camera! And the Y-fronts!
Meet Laura and little Isabella. I’ve known Laura for quite a few years now, having met while we were both seconded out to Hong Kong for the old day job. Little Isabella I only met the other week when I went round to visit and good grief, if I’d have been wearing socks she’d have charmed them right off. I mean really, is anyone actually reading this or are you just coo-ing over her gorgeous little face? :) Don’t worry, I don’t blame you.
This wasn’t a proper photo shoot, it was a quick 15 minutes between Isabella’s bouncy-dancey-time and her cant-keep-my-eyes-open-any-longer time (it’s exhausting being so small, isn’t it?). Still, 15 minutes with some gorgeous natural light was more than enough to get some beautiful images.
HOW awesome is it being a baby? THIS awesome!
Oh yeah. x

Oh MY so adorable, and what beautiful light. Gorgeous KatYou know it’s going to be a good week when it starts off with a trip to Drink Shop & Do. I’d happily stuff my face with their Victoria Sponge for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s that good.
The rest of the week involved Christiana & Owain’s engagement shoot in Kenwood House, watching some disappointing rugby against South Africa, and seconding a gorgeous wedding with Robbins Photographic at Shoreditch House. I also had a fab meeting with Kate of Kate Ruth Romey to discuss an upcoming new project which hopefully you’re all going to love – it’s going to be a fun one to share, I think! Yesterday I was down in Brighton with my fellow Photography Farmers. You know, sometimes it’s good to just talk photography with other people and not watch their eyes glaze over when you talk apertures and f stops! :) And oh, I went to see Prometheus earlier in the week. It was utterly rubbish. Well, maybe it wasn’t utterly rubbish, but I couldn’t get over Noomi Rapace’s dreadful English accent. Sorry Noomi.
// ONE FOR THE IPHONE //
If you have an iPhone or an iPad, check out these creative cases and skins from Society 6. I kinda like this one or maybe this one. I suppose they’re rather similar. Hey ho.
// ONE FOR ME (I WISH) //
I love the entire FW12/13 lookbook by Alexander Terekhov and would dress like this all day, every day if I could. Unfortunately my life doesn’t involve wafting round cobbled streets without a care in the world, but if it did, believe you me I’d be suitably attired.
// ONE FOR THE BRIDES //
Three words : Julie Song stationery. I’m loving her work, truly madly deeply.
// ONE FOR THE EASILY AMUSED//
I’ll leave you with this blog . It made my day.
