I’m on the English Wedding blog!

Remember the Town Hall Hotel vintage glam shoot I posted a while back?  Well when the utterly lovely Claire from English Wedding said she would feature it I couldn’t be more chuffed! I absolutely love that blog, especially when the strap-line is “Be Different, Think Creative, Have an Opinion” – yes yes yes!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

WEDDING >> Caroline & Lewis’ London Wedding

Flashback to a couple of months ago – it’s a glorious summer’s day and I’m about to start second shooting for the mega talented Lisa Devlin (Lisa probably doesn’t need any introduction to anyone who knows even a little weeny bit about wedding photography in the UK! If you’re in any doubt, she’s currently the BJP’s wedding photographer of the year, and to say I jumped at the chance to work with her is a bit of an understatement).

While Lisa is on the other side of London photographing Caroline’s bridal prep, I’m in North London to get some shots on Lewis’ side.    The flat is absolutely lovely and totally my cup of tea – muted greys and graphical patterns everywhere – and I know it’s going to be a good day for snapping away.

Lewis and his groomsmen managed to schedule some time for a quick trip to the pub en route to the ceremony…

The ceremony is at, funnily enough, Burgh House in Hampstead- a venue I was to shoot in again a few weeks later.  Guests are treated to one of the cutest Programme of Events I’ve ever seen.

It’s not long before Caroline arrives and she looks absolutely amazing in a dress she’s designed herself and a flower headpiece she made herself…that morning!

And then, tea and cake before we head out to take some couple’s shots around the cobbled streets of Hampstead.

Guests are whisked away for the evening’s festivities by an old skool Routemaster bus…

and soon the party begins at 6 St Chad’s Place in King’s Cross.  The bar is gorgeously decorated with loads of little homemade touches – at the end of the evening I’m trying to convince Caroline that she has a future in wedding styling! Oh, and did someone say an OREO WEDDING CAKE?!

To see more of this lovely wedding head on over to Rock n Roll Bride’s feature or Lisa’s post!

Big congratulations to Caroline & Lewis and thank you so much to you guys and Lisa for having me along on the day.  I really loved every minute of it, it was such a dream to photograph and I wish you guys all the happiness in the world.

BRIDAL >> Town Hall Hotel Vintage Glam Bridal Shoot

I don’t quite know if it’s possible to be in love with a venue, but if it is, I think I’m a little bit in love with the Town Hall Hotel.   A pocket of luxury nestled away in unlikely Bethnal Green, it features not only a Michelin star restaurant, breath-taking,  individually designed rooms, and hallways dripping with pieces by up-and-coming artists, but it also houses a gorgeous set of unique venues for weddings.   (And, word has it, that a certain rock legend did a photoshoot there not too long ago!).

I have to admit, I was more than excited to be able to shoot here….

The venue really called for a vintage vibe, but a sophisticated one.  I was thinking Mad Men, 60s film noir, Sophia Loren.  Speaking of Sophia’s, doesn’t our model Sophia St Viller look breathtaking?  That titan hair is to die for.  And this 60’s style shift dress was on loan to us by the lovely ladies at Fur Coat No Knickers – we had so many lovely comments about this dress on the shoot and every bride owes it to themselves to check out FCNK’s boutique in Carnaby Street!

A few weeks before the shoot, I’d met Kate of Kate Ruth Romey, a wedding stationery designer and she was gorgeous enough to not only give us some stationery for the shoot, but she designed a whole set specifically!  How lovely was that?  But that’s what she’s really good at, finding out what your themes and inspirations are, and transforming it into something just perfect for you.  The stationery was not only absolutely lovely, but perfect for our theme!

You might remember I did a jewellery product shoot not too long ago, for Jane Branney, a talented jeweller based in Yorkshire.  She was kind enough to lend us some pieces for the shoot.  The silver earrings below are my favourite – the silver has been imprinted with vintage lace so it has a unique pattern!

Make up was by Victoria Wallen and Ciara Hatton and I was chuffed to bits when they said they’d be on board, especially as I’ve worked with Victoria before and knew she’d knock it out of the park.  Which both her and Ciara totally did!  I know our models Sophia and Lara are gorgeous anyway, but the hair! The eyelashes! The eye make up!  I would really rather like either Victoria or Ciara to live in my make up bag.  Unfortunately for me, they’re busy beautifying actresses for telly and brides for their big day!

Oh, and did I mention the hotel as the most gorgeous indoor pool?

As you can see, the hotel hosts an eclectic mix of architectural styles and decorative influences, but that’s part of it’s charm.  It all works together beautifully, and there isn’t a dull corner.

Hannah Webster - Oh that’s a lovely venue, indeed. It makes me think of romantic liaisons & vintage glamour. The dresses you’ve featured suit it down to the ground. I do live FCNK. A fabby shoot that, madam. Well done you and hurrah for all the awesome vendors involved! xOctober 20, 2011 – 9:18 am

Adam Ruffett (@AdamRuffett) - All kinds of awesome… stunning work….October 20, 2011 – 9:26 am

Personal >> Autumn in France

Last week, I took advantage of a £18-return Ryanair flight and went to visit my parents in France for a few days.  I ate, I read, I edited, I sat in the sun and watched birds and squirrels go about their daily business.  It was glorious.  Unfortunately I didn’t have Bobby Kamora with me (my camera, named after the footballer Bobby Zamora for no particular reason) but I had fun trying out my parents’ Nikon point and shoot.  Yeah, it was ok, but not a patch on Bobby.  Still, one or two photos for you!  Most are straight out of camera and unedited, which is probably rather silly of me but they’re just simple photos. Nothing fancy.

As you can see, Autumn has definitely arrived in France – even though the summer heat has left for the year, everything is still gloriously golden and warm.

The garden is abundant with figs and walnuts and chestnuts this time of year, and the squirrels are running riot in their pre-Winter gathering madness.    Well, not only the squirrels…

Happy Autumn everyone! x

Hannah Webster - Just goes to show that is it NOT the camera that makes the photographer. These are lovely. Sounds like you had a fab time, you lucky thing. xOctober 14, 2011 – 2:04 pm
